By default, the leaderboard will be sorted by participants’ positions. However, you can sort by any other column by clicking the column header. Clicking again will the reverse the sort order.
Different Rankings
The way positions are determined on the leaderboard can vary between events, especially if an event is free route instead of fixed route. It typically depends on the type of event and the organiser’s preference. These are some of the most common ranking methods:
Distance on track – with fixed-route events, the participant’s position is almost always determined by their progress along the pre-loaded route. This is the most common way positions are determined.
Checkpoint timestamps – where events have checkpoints and no fixed route (e.g. The Transcontinental), this is the most common way to assign position. It means that a participant’s position only changes at each checkpoint, where they are ranked by the time they arrived. In this scenario, the position on the leaderboard won’t always match their apparent position on the map, as one participant passing another between checkpoints does not affect the ranking until they reach the next checkpoint.
Average speed – where events use a staggered start, determining position by average speed can be the best way to give an idea of participants’ relative performance throughout. This uses their overall average speed (rather than moving average), effectively predicting where they would finish if everyone maintained their average speed throughout. It means that apparent positions on the map will often not match the leaderboard.
Stage time – some events are split into stages, with time in between not counted. In this instance, the map leaderboard will also reflect this, ranking by cumulative time over the stages. Again, this means that apparent positions on the map will often not match the leaderboard.
Points – some events assign points based on reaching certain checkpoints, often with different checkpoints having different values. In this situation, a score is shown on the leaderboard and positions will be assigned based on this.
